DIS-COUNTING CALORIES
There has never been a single theory in human history that could cause humanity more grief, torment and death than the alleged theory of "food calorie content". This theory became even scarier after it had turned into a worldwide truth with the power to influence not only the population's food consumption, but their behavior and way of life. The "food calorie content" theory does not allow tens of millions of people to live genetically predisposed longer lives. Human loss caused by this theory easily exceeds the number that perished in the world wars and people continue to get ill and suffer from lives shortened by systematic gluttony.

Where does the calorie theory come from? What is it all about? Karl von Feut (1831-1896) researched the daily nutritional ration among a large population group in his native city of Munich, which is famous for its mass consumption of beer and sausages. The targeted research group consisted mainly of cabbies, craftsmen, construction and unskilled workers. Mr. Feut measured the average per capita amount of money they spent on meats, flour, vegetables, potatoes, bread, beer, wine etc. Based on this data he arrived at certain conclusions, elaborated on by other scientists, his followers and successors. All of the scientists assumed that these workers, free to choose, purchased the foods that, first, recouped spent energy, and, second, enhanced labor efficiency and productivity. In other words, Feut and his successors assumed that the foods consumed by the worker are the most suitable not only in Munich, but all around the world.

Their 24-hour food ration was burned in calorimetric ovens and the amounts of calories were accurately calculated after the break down: this many calories came from sausages, that many came from lard, meat and meat products, potatoes and croissants. Everything burned was calculated and presented as the result of a scientific work. Those who measured the three or four thousand kilocalories eaten by a German in order to satisfy his hunger have received internationally universal recognition for the apparent clarity and simplicity.

However neither Feut nor his students could know what is known to many today and is scientifically proven - that is, such quantities of food are simply redundant and therefore harmful. It is gluttony, not necessity. Feut was mistaken in his assumption that city dwellers would always instinctively choose the foods good for their health. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Actually, there is no real scientific value in the diet of an average citizen and we are left to wonder why this experiment made scientists believe for such a long time that they could teach people how to eat correctly. It was the authority of German professor Feut and his ideological successor Rubner. It was so strong that even competing American medical science blindly followed their recommendations without criticism, despite the fact that professor Chittenden, one of the founders of a North American nutrition school, proved that those principles did not have any real basis.

A living organism such as a human is ten times more complex than an iron calorimetric oven and its energy consumption. We are based on a different set of natural laws, which should have been taken into consideration. A piece of meat of a certain weight burned in an oven can discharge the same thousand of kilocalories as a certain amount of grain if burned in the same oven. The problem is that everything burns in an oven according to the same laws while biochemical decomposition of different products in a human organism is accompanied with different amounts of consumed and discharged energy. For example: most calories consumed with a piece of meat will be spent on digestion of the very same piece of meat. Grains, on the other hand, will discharge many times more calories than needed for their digestion. Therefore standardized numbers of calories are not a suitable measure for a living organism since it does not take into consideration the specific characteristics of the products we consume. The moral of the story is instead of counting calories, pay attention to the quality of the foods you are eating and their ingredients. Opt for raw foods and foods with little or no additives. Make healthier choices for a healthier you.
